Meetings and Discussion Groups

All patients interested in weight loss programs at UMass Memorial are required to attend one Orientation Meeting. At this meeting, there is a general discussion of available programs, including surgical and nonsurgical options. Register now!

The Surgery Discussion Group is for patients who have attended the Orientation Meeting and want to hear more about surgery from providers and patients who have had surgery.

Once patients decide if they are interested in surgical or non-surgical weight management, they fill out a simple questionnaire. Patients who are not sure which track is most appropriate should indicate that on the questionnaire.  One or more individual appointments take place for all patients once a track is determined.

Patients who decide to take the Behavioral Track to weight loss attend weekly small group Core meetings with nutritionists, health psychology professionals and exercise specialists. After the Core meetings, ongoing support is provided to all participants.

The Post-surgery Discussion Group is for patients who have had weight loss surgery at UMass Memorial and want to share their experience and/or learn from the experience of others who have had surgery. The group discusses specific topics that are important to long-term weight loss success.
