The Pediatric Family Resource Library is a consumer health library and is part of the UMass Medical School Lamar Soutter Library. The library offers a collection of reference services and pediatric resources for parents and other family caregivers interested in learning more about children's health care issues. It has become a valuable Central Massachusetts resource.
Parents need to be able to distinguish between accurate and inaccurate health information to support their health care decision making. The Pediatric Family Resource Library staff members teach parents how to find and use quality health information on the Internet and to give them the tools to evaluate that information.
The Pediatric Library and the Lamar Soutter Library have Internet access, as well as print resources that parents are welcome to use. Users can address questions directly to knowledgeable medical librarians and make requests to borrow books and videotapes. You can also click on the library web site to search for books, videos and more.
The library offers classes for parents in the computer lab at the Lamar Soutter Library to help them find quality health information on the Internet. For information about classes, call Nancy Harger, 774-442-3967, or by e-mail refstaff@umassmed.edu.
